A bit about me

Aside from pensions, horses are my passion. When not working I can usually be found riding my beautiful mare, Laura, or taking my sassy Shetland pony, Lilly, for a walk to prepare her for her racing fixtures. I spend a fair few summer weekends supporting Lilly at shows across the country. Horses aside I find time to trawl through auction rooms, and antique fairs and shops for those one of a kind pieces, and to indulge my love of cooking, reading and travel – these are all interlinked as I am fascinated by the culture of the places I visit and like to immerse myself by learning the history, understanding the way of life and experimenting with the cuisine. My partner particularly enjoys the cuisine bit!

Experience

I joined Muse in 2023 as Client Director supporting the Outsourced Pensions Management service.

I have been managing pension schemes for well over 30 years, initially as a consultant advising Trustees and Sponsors then in house as head of pensions/ pensions manager at the Financial Conduct Authority and most recently at Bank of America.

I describe myself as an expert generalist. During my career I have taken full advantage of the variety of opportunities and challenges that working in pensions offers and this has given me a wealth of practical experience to draw on.

Building and evolving strategic objectives is core to successful scheme management. As pensions become ever more complex, maintaining a clear and common strategic vision is critical to enable trustee boards to navigate the ever changing legislative and regulatory landscape. This has been a key focus for me throughout my in house career in particular. I enjoy challenge – one of the more unusual projects was leading and successfully delivering master trust authorisation. This gave me real insight into what is meant by “effective systems of governance”.

I take a practical and common sense approach to running pensions schemes, making sure the foundations of strong and effective governance are in place so that Trustees can achieve their objectives with confidence. I thoroughly enjoy working with Trustee boards, enabling and supporting them to achieve good outcomes for their members. I work collaboratively, engaging with trustees, sponsors and advisers to achieve optimum results. People make the difference, so getting the best from them is the route to success.
